“Skateboarding is a crime, not a sport”, professional skater Braydon Szafranski recently told Rolling Stone in reference to its inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games!
Why do some people claim “Skateboarding is a crime, not a sport“?
It is easy to see that vandalism is characterized as deliberate harm or destruction of either public or private property. Skateboarders can destroy things when they are out skating, and non-skaters may consider them as vandals. If you skate anything enough, it will probably get damaged, no matter how hard you try to avoid hitting them.
Skateboarding, now an Olympic sport, is also a recreational activity, of riding and performing tricks on a skateboard. Riders stand on a flat board, commonly made of wood, with four rollers attached below to either showcase skills or commute. The skateboard has three major parts – the deck, trucks and wheels.
Skateboarding, according to some, isn’t and never really will be a sport because there is no team, no set of regulations, and no set of limitations—only imagination. Despite the popularity of skateboarding tournaments, none of them can match the Olympics. For instance, Street League is the largest host of competitions in the sector.
Some believe that skateboarding is a sport, purely due to its physicality! It can be seen that the mixed opinions about Skateboarding in Olympic tournaments is always one of the most interesting topics!
